21 Hours at Munich (1976) - William Holden
This is what a 58 year old man looks like in 1976. And I'd still have my face planted in his crotch.

“My father told me: Ana, Davide is from another world, we are people next door.”
Tumblr media
When young Ana Galocha (Seville, 1985) drew for hours at her home in Mairena del Alcor, she had no idea how her life would change in 2014. While working at the Shoko nightclub in Madrid, where she had settled six years earlier to become an actress, a friend wanted to introduce her to Davide, the son of Carlo Ancelotti, but she did not show much interest. "I didn't know anything about football. I pictured him as a typical goofball. We started talking and two months later he went to Seville to surprise me. I told him I couldn't stay because I rarely go to Seville because I can't afford it, and when I do, it's with my family. If he wanted to see me, he had to come to my parents' house for dinner. And he came!” Ana explains. Their worlds were polar opposites. Ana's father, an electrician, worked at the Morón de la Frontera air base, and her mother "in factories, picking fruit, olives ...". Davide (Parma, 1989) was a footballer and was already a physical trainer working with his father at Real Madrid. “My father told me: Ana, Davide is from another world, we are people next door. He was afraid I was just a whim of him". But they continued their relationship. "Now my parents defend him more than I do when we fight!" she smiles. Galocha lives discreetly and gets nervous at the beginning of the interview. At the age of 21, she came to Madrid to study Interpretation. “I had a hard time making ends meet. I shared an apartment, worked as a flight attendant, waitress, reporter ... One day my mother came to me, opened the refrigerator and saw that it was empty. She didn't say anything to me, but she started crying again because I had nothing to eat. I was about to give up, but I kept going, and that's how life got me to where I am now." - she says. Today, she still lives in the capital with Davide and her twins, Leo and Lucas, and can do what she has loved most since she was a child: painting. “My photos inspire me. I try to have fun, I try colors, shapes, techniques... I'm self-taught. I graduated from art high school, but I didn't want to go to art because they made me paint with deadlines and what they wanted, which made me lose my love for what I liked the most.” Even though she hasn't exhibited her work yet and has sold a few paintings ("I'm a very bad seller"), she has a waiting list. "It's special when I paint my children, but the most significant drawing was a portrait of my grandfather, which I made in pencil, gave it to him, and he kept it at home until he died." During these eight years he accompanied Davide to Naples, Liverpool, Parma and Munich. “When he was without a team, we lived in my city and he has adapted phenomenally, he is very humble and more urban than me!” she laughs. “He is calm and I am very impulsive. He likes to be at home and I like to go out. He is very shy and I am not at all. But our secret is to trust and respect our spaces.” It's hard for her to remember the exact day of the proposal, which was in 2017. “It was the last day of our holiday in Formentera. We were going to dinner, Carlo (Ancelotti) called us and kept asking about dinner. He was his son's accomplice! We got to the restaurant and there was a flamenco group that I love and that Davide had hired. We had a bottle of wine and he asked me if we could order another. I was surprised because there were two of us. We ask for it and we invite musicians. And there he put a ring on me. I was empty and it took me a while to say yes." - she's joking. Twice they had to cancel the wedding due to the pandemic, and a week before the wedding, Ana showed off her impulsiveness. “I had a wedding dress ready for two years, but I got bored of it. I went to Barcelona alone. I tried one on a mannequin and three days before the wedding they shipped it to my house. Our wedding reception was a great surprise along with the celebration our friends organized for us.” Of course, their families were with them, who experienced this day intensively. "Carlo is a very calm and friendly man. We get along really well. At first it's hard for him to open up, but then ... he loves jokes. He speaks Spanish and Italian, and I don't understand most of them, but I burst out laughing. Besides, he likes flamenco and as a grandfather he is wonderful, although he works a lot and we don't see each other as often as we would like. We go to his house in the summer and he loves to cook pasta for the whole family. He is a great cook.” - says Ana about the coach of Real Madrid. Ana Galocha's future is not yet written. She has many dreams to fulfill. "I'm back in acting and doing a DJ course. I want to enjoy my paintings and I have no great ambitions in this respect.” As for the new movement, he has everything clear. “Davide is not going to China! He really wants to work in teams in Europe, but if he went to China, I would go with him."

Why Father Ziegler From Mrs. Davis Looks So Familiar Peacock
BY BRANDON SHOAFF/APRIL 21, 2023
Spoilers for "Mrs. Davis" Season 1, Episode 3 "A Baby with Wings, a Sad Boy with Wings and Great Helmet"
"Mrs. Davis" proves that if a priest asks you where you got your shoes, you should probably answer. Episode 3 of "Mrs. Davis" sees Simone (Betty Gilpin) and Wiley (Jake McDorman) travel to the United Kingdom in order to continue their search for the Holy Grail, and they soon find themselves at a massive contest involving historical helmets and a giant sword in a stone. Wiley then finds himself a part of this simple endurance contest that just requires its participants to keep at least one hand placed firmly on the massive sword, much to the dismay of Simone.
As Wiley stands there for countless hours, he communicates with Simone through cans connected by a string, and at one point a mysterious priest known as Father Ziegler (Tom Wlaschiha) manages to get on the line; he then asks Wiley where he managed to get a pair of BK Knights sneakers. This pair of shoes was given to Wiley by Simone, who in turn received them from a proxy of Mrs. Davis. However, Wiley should have answered Father Ziegler, as soon another conspiracy is revealed. Of course, Father Ziegler has a unique look, and there is a very specific reason why he looks so familiar.
Wlaschiha appears in many German shows and movies before reaching English audiences with The Deep:
Tumblr media
Tom Wlaschiha has an extensive career, with IMDb noting that he currently has over 80 acting credits. His early career consisted of several German-language television shows and movies like "Stubbe — Von Fall zu Fall," "Wolkenstein," and "Ich wunsch Dir Liebe." Following those, Wlaschiha soon started to appear as unnamed background actors in Hollywood movies like 2001's "Enemy at the Gates" where he plays a soldier, 2005's "Munich" where he is part of a news crew, and 2008's "Valkyrie" where he plays a communications officer.
His first big break when it came to English-speaking audiences, though, came in 2010 with the British miniseries "The Deep." Starring alongside Minnie Driver and James Nesbitt, this five-episode show follows a crew of deep-sea researchers investigating a mysterious new source of energy found only at abyssal depths. Wlaschiha plays the role of Arkady, a Russian survivor trapped at the bottom of the sea in a damaged advanced research and drilling station.
Though the protagonists of "The Deep" aren't quite sure what to make of Arkady, he is eventually able to prove his worth.
Wlaschiha plays a German occupier in Resistance:
Tumblr media
Tom Wlaschiha's next endeavor was in the 2011 Welsh film "Resistance," where he played a character named Captain Albrecht Wolfram. This movie follows an alternate reality where the Germans were able to successfully invade the United Kingdom after the failure of D-Day. As such, the countryside is now filled with German soldiers and the wives of British soldiers and partisans. However, Albrecht soon becomes involved with Sarah Lewis (Andrea Riseborough), a Welsh woman whose husband went off to fight against the occupiers, and the two have a very nuanced dynamic.
Speaking with Cover Media (via Film-News) in 2011, director Amit Gupta said that Wlaschiha was absolutely perfect for the role of Albrecht, and explained, "Well, I knew that I wanted the German [parts] to be in German, so I knew I'd be casting German actors. We met quite a lot of actors and I saw Tom Wlaschiha do a couple of things and when I met him I thought, 'He's perfect for Albrecht'. He was sort of beautiful looking, but sort of tragically beautiful. I just met him and thought, 'This is a man who's carrying some history with him' — and I found that really powerful."
Wlaschiha has no name in Game of Thrones:
Tumblr media
Though Tom Wlaschiha certainly has a history of playing foreign soldiers and individuals, the role that put him on the proverbial map, at least in the eyes of the vast majority, is from the massively popular HBO show "Game of Thrones." Originally introduced as Jaqen H'ghar in 2012's Season 2, this enigmatic figure becomes a fixture in the life of Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) when he shows her that he is actually a powerful assassin that has an assortment of magical skills.
However, Jaqen may not actually be his real name, as the character is actually part of a group called the Faceless Men. This group is essentially a religion, and they pray to the Many-Faced God, which is just another name for death. Calm and collected, Jaqen and Arya have a fascinating teacher-student relationship, and he is partly responsible for turning Arya into one of the most fearsome fighters in the world of "Game of Thrones."
During an interview with Geek Culture, Wlaschiha spoke about what he liked about his character, and he said, "The Faceless Men have this philosophical aspect that all men are equal regardless of their social status, and what they've done in life. They regard all of them as equal, and they will kill anyone for just the right price. I like this aspect."
Wlaschiha is a dangerous operative in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan:
Tumblr media
Dropping his magical persona and getting into the world of high-stakes espionage, the next major project for Tom Wlaschiha found him appearing in 4 episodes of 2019's "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan." Similar to his role in "Game of Thrones," Wlaschiha's character in this show is also a deadly assassin. Starring alongside John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Michael Kelly, Wlaschiha is a Season 2 villain known as Max Schenkel, a dangerous German operative that gets caught up in a game of cat and mouse with Jack Ryan (Krasinski).
Speaking with The Knockturnal during a red carpet interview, Wlaschiha explained some of the background history of his character. He also mentioned that he spent an incredible amount of time running and jumping during many scenes, which he added was quite a problem at the altitude they were at because of the thin air. Wlaschiha was then asked if he did his own stunts, and he replied, "I did the stuff that I could do, but obviously I mean I wasn't allowed to do everything. I would have loved to do everything but wasn't allowed to do so. But the running was really, I mean I think I always thought I was a good runner, but at this height, it's a completely different thing."
Wlaschiha helps Jim Hopper escape a Russian prison in Stranger Things:
Tumblr media
Besides appearing as everybody's favorite smooth-talking assassin-zealot in "Game of Thrones," Tom Wlaschiha also lent his talents to another massively popular television series, "Stranger Things." Popping up in Season 4, Wlaschiha plays Enzo/Dimitri, a Russian prison guard who is instrumental in reuniting Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Jim Hopper (David Harbour). However, these three soon find themselves all trying to escape from Russia once it is discovered that Dimitri has been aiding Jim in his escape attempts.
During an interview with Collider, series creator Matt Duffer mentioned that the original draft of Season 4 would have seen Dimitri die, but that particular plot point was later changed. Duffer explained, "In terms of who makes it, who lives or dies. I think there was a version where Dimitri, AKA Enzo, didn't make it. Then he ended up making it. But that's [the most] radical of a departure from the original idea versus what we ended up with."
The reason for this character change could be that "Stranger Things" managed to recruit Wlaschiha, but whatever the case may be, it seems that whenever a television show or movie needs a foreign-sounding soldier, killer, or priest, Wlaschiha is just a phone call away.

20 - 21 June 1998 - A weekend in Salzburg - crazy pretzels and sliding down in the Berchtesgaden underground salt mine
21 June 1998
Hi everyone
Today and tomorrow, twenty years ago, I was in Salzburg, in kangaroo-less Austria, and the Berchtesgadener Land in southeasternmost Germany.  Because I would not be paid until a week or so later, I had to spend a night in a hostel and eat cheap.  I found a good hostel just southeast of downtown Salzburg, called the Eduard Heinrich Haus.  I reserved my room by phone, on Friday on a payphone. (Payphones in 2018 are hard to find anymore)
Originally I was not supposed to go to Salzburg the weekend of the 20th/21st June, but rather on the 19th my work colleagues were supposed to go mountain climbing (actually hiking which could as well be climbing!) south of Holzkirchen. That was postponed until the 26th because of the weather forecast for the 19th – in the mountains of Bavaria, the weather can change unexpectedly, and it is hard to find shelter, so we made the safe decision to wait until the 26th.
From Munich to Salzburg, the Schönes Wochenende ticket that cost 35 DM, was valid all weekend on the slow trains.  I took the Regional Express from Munich Ostbahnhof via Rosenheim and Freilassing. The train was not air conditioned, as were many Regional Express trains at the time, so it was an annoyance to some passengers, to slide the window down when going over 50 mph, particularly between Munich Ost and Rosenheim.  I think I arrived around 10:30 AM in Salzburg Hbf.  As I noted from 7th June 1998, there was no longer any formal customs between Germany and Austria as a result of the Schengen Agreement, so the station customs at Salzburg Hbf I remembered in operation in June 1997, for 1998 it was completely unmanned.  It was still standing in December 2001/August 2002, and I think also in August 2004 when I returned for a day visit, but sometime in 2005, it was demolished to make room for more train platforms and was complete around February 2012.
I went to the ticket hall, and then bought a day pass for the Salzburg Verkehrsbetriebe for the city and also for the zones including Lamprechtshausen and also Trimmelkam, as I was curious about riding the Lokalbahn, which is now the S-1 line.  In today's money it would be EUR 13.60, now 190 Schilling if today's exchange rate of ATS 13.9 = EUR 1.00 were to be used, but it was cheaper 20 years ago.  It was a good ride up to Lamprechtshausen.  I bought myself a big bottle of Almdudler (it is herbal and tastes like fizzy iced tea) at the Billa grocery store, of which I posted a photo of it while waiting for a bus in Wildshut.  From Lamprechtshausen I took the "shuttle line" to Bürmoos in Oberösterreich.  There was not much to see or do, and I was not quite thirsty enough to drink any of the Almdudler while waiting for the train to return to Bürmoos and on to Salzburg, so somehow I walked to Wildshut.  I think I took an hour to get there.  It was sunny and I think about the 90s.  I caught the bus that went on to Oberndorf where the S-1 would take me back to Salzburg.  I was starting to get a headache so I drank some of the Almdudler but it was not much use.  I went back to Hbf to fetch my clothes bag and headed for the hostel.  I had to take trolley bus 51 and exit at Egger-Lienz-Straße and walk a half mile towards the Salzach bank more or less.  My bed in the room was ready, and I took a nap for about two hours, and listened to the former "Blue Danube Radio" station.  The station is now part of the independent channel FM4.  I remember a story about the Empress Sisi mentioned on the broadcast.
I could not stay at the hostel for so long, as I did not come to Salzburg just to sleep all day.  I had to go back to the Altstadt to see what was going on.  As the 1998 FIFA World Cup was still in group stage, there were two matches.  One was Belgium vs Mexico, and the other was Netherlands vs South Korea.  I did not have any internet at the time, even a "smart phone", so back in 1998, there would be internet set up and probably 50 people or so would wait in line, waiting 15 to 20 minutes to get a turn.  I think I waited a whole hour.  Grumpy-Old-Man would say "That's the way it was, and we *liked* it!"  Now everyone can just skip that and use their smartphone.  I thought of going up to the top of the castle but I decided it was getting too late for that.  I think I had a "Käsekreiner" and can of Stiegl beer for dinner, took a bus to the Parsch district, I guess for sentimental reasons, and when it was dark, I went back to the hostel.  Back then I did not know that the Sacher Hotel was across the Salzach from the Altstadt, until I saw an ad sometime in July 1998.  It was out of my price range at the time anyway.
Sunday morning the 21st was as sunny as Saturday.  That was the day I was going to go to the Schloß Salzburg by cable car.  I had breakfast at the hostel, washed up, checked out, then took bus 51 to Salzburg Hbf to leave my clothes bag.  I went to the castle by cable car.  At the top, there was a very good panoramic view, not just of the , but also towards Maxglan, Hallein and even a little bit of Tirol.  And also the Berchtesgadener Land which I would visit later that day.  After I took the cable car down, I walked around and found a pretzel seller.  They had so many kinds of soft pretzels that I chose three, all of them about 10 inches wide.  One with ham and cheese, one with just salt, and the other split and filled with chocolate.  I took them along and then after taking the bus to Maxglan, I ate the ham and cheese pretzel, maybe one more.  By that time I think I had seen enough of Salzburg.  I was not much of a fan of Sound of Music so I did not go on that tour.  It was time to leave Austria and then return to Germany.
I boarded, I think 1:30 PM, the train at Salzburg Hbf, for Berchtesgaden via Freilassing.  It arrived in Berchtesgaden, the end of the line, at 3 PM.  I thought of going to Kehlsteinhaus / Eagles Nest (would do that on 19th July 1998), but I settled on the Salzbergwerke, the salt mine.  It is basically a 10 minute train ride inside the mountain, a walk through the tunnels, sliding down and also a boat ride through the salt pool.  Everyone is required to wear a rented salt mine overall (somewhere I have a selfie!) and stay with the guide at all times.  In comparison to the upper 80s temperatures, the inside of the mountain was about the low 50s.  It is constant year round, as I would find out later, namely in February 2012 when I visited another salt mine in Bad Dürrnberg near Hallein.  Coming out of the salt mine was not so fun, after it being so cool inside.  Oh no it's so hot!  The walk back to the rail station was not pleasant but I had a surprise going back to Munich.  The train that arrived in Berchtesgaden as an Intercity train, was returning to Munich as a Regional Express, it was air conditioned and my Schönes Wochenend Ticket was also valid at no extra charge. What was the catch?  It had to make its scheduled stops.  But I did not mind.
I think I arrived at München Hbf about 8:30 or 9 PM, went to work the next day.  The weather forecast for Friday 26 June would be mostly sunny, for my colleagues, excellent weather for mountain climbing.  I will tell about that sometime next week, what that all entailed.  No one got hurt (badly), everyone survived.  And I even had a chance to see a pre-production BMW Z3-based E36 series coupe - probably the coolest car I saw all that year.
Well, have a nice rest of the week, everyone.  There were no "foreign" journeys - in relation to Germany - expected until Friday 10th July 1998.

See how was the secret mission that made Joe Biden arrive in Ukraine without Air Force One
Surprisingly, the U.S. president visited the Ukrainian capital, Kiev. For the last part of the trip, Joe Biden renounced plane transport.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 02/21/2013 - 12:40 PM in Military, War Zones
The world was surprised on Monday (20/02) when U.S. President Joe Biden visited Kiev, Ukraine, for the first time since the beginning of the war, almost a year ago. Biden did not land at Kiev airport, arriving in the Ukrainian capital through a well-planned operation and executed in a few hours.
Biden did not fly to Kyiv-Boryspil Airport or any of the other airports in or around the Ukrainian capital because he is very risky in the country that has been covered by the war by Russia for almost a year.
Tumblr media
According to several news agencies, Biden took off from Andrews Joint Air Base, southeastern Washington with a Boeing C-32 at 04:15 local time, on February 19 - with the so-called "SAM060" (SAM for Special Air Mission) instead of the usual "Air Force One".
In addition to the employees on board the modified 757, there were only a few journalists selected on board who previously had to deliver their mobile phones. They were informed on Friday and instructed to wait for details on Saturday, with the subject: "Arrival instructions for the golf tournament".
Tumblr media
They were instructed to arrive at Andrews air base at 2:15 a.m. local time on Sunday. Both were prohibited from reporting any details for 24 hours.
Tumblr media
Several hours before Biden's visit, the sky over Poland was visited by two U.S. Air Force AWACS E-3B Sentry jets and a single Boeing RC-135W 'Rivet Joint' signal intelligence (SIGINT) aircraft. Routine air traffic scanning can easily be interpreted as preparations for the announced visit of the President of the U.S. (POTUS) to Poland, which was announced to take place between February 21 and 22.
Tumblr media
A whole series of aircraft is available to the U.S. government. At the Munich security conference last weekend, Vice President Kamala Harris and her delegation traveled with two jets - a Boeing C-32 and a Boeing C-40 Clipper, a military version of the 737-700.

The flight made a stop to refuel after about seven hours in Ramstein, Germany, then landing at Rzeszow-Jesionka airport in Poland, at 7:57 p.m. local time. From there, Biden drove in a car convoy to Przemysl Glówny, where he got on a train that took him to Kiev on a trip that lasted It is the same route used to transport large amounts of aid and hundreds of thousands of refugees going in the opposite direction.

The train arrived around 8 a.m. in Kiev, where Biden met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On the morning of February 20, Kiev was surprisingly quiet. Public transport was partially interrupted in the city center and public spaces released.
Finally, around 12 p.m. local time, the first filming of President Joe Biden leaving the monastery of São Miguel along with President Volodymyr Zelensky was published on social networks.
Zelensky and Biden honored the Ukrainian soldiers killed during the conflict, since operations in Donbass in 2014, at St. Michael's Monastery and took a short tour of the city.
The leaders held a joint press conference where strong words were shared by Biden condemning the Russian aggression and emphasizing Western solidarity with Ukraine. Biden said:
"When Putin launched his invasion almost a year ago, he thought that Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. He thought he could survive us. But he was completely wrong.

The visit also announced promises of delivery of new equipment totaling US$ 500 million. The U.S. will provide more artillery equipment along with HIMARS ammunition and new sanctions will also be imposed on individuals and companies still operating in Russia, supporting their invasion of Ukraine. Biden also announced other “critical equipment”, including anti-shielded systems and air surveillance radars. But no combat jets yet.
The media audience was only allowed to make the itinerary public when Biden had already left again - again by railroad towards Poland. On the night of the 20th, Biden landed in Warsaw with the C-32 aircraft.
The White House national security consultant told the American media that Russia was informed “some hours” before Biden’s trip to Kiev. This was done "to mitigate the situation". He did not go into detail about how accurate or vague the information was and how Moscow reacted.

POTUS' visit to Ukraine signals the West's continued support for Kiev. With the official statement of the White House noting that “last year, the United States built a coalition of nations from the Atlantic to the Pacific to help defend Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic and humanitarian support – and that support will last.”

Solar Institute Post #2
(21/06/2022)
FELLOW INSTITUTE MEMBERS: APOLOGIES FOR THE EXTENDED TIME BETWEEN BULLETINS. SINCE OUR LAST EXCHANGED DISPATCHES, MY RESEARCH MISSION HAS TAKEN ME FROM THE STATES TO EUROPE, AND I WORK DAY TO NIGHT DELIVERING OUR MESSAGE AND RECORDING FIELD DATA. HERE, I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE PRESENCE OF SOLAR POWER IS ALIVE AND WELL. THE SUBJECTS' LIMBS ARE TANNED AND BARE, THEIR LIPS APPEARING JUICY AND WELL MOISTURIZED. THEIR PHYSICAL APPEARANCE HAS BEEN RECORDED AS "SUPER HOT" IN OUR LEDGERS. I AM PLEASED TO REPORT SIGNIFICANT LYRIC RECALL AND LUNG CAPACITY BEING PROVEN AT OUR NIGHTLY INSTITUTE GATHERINGS ACROSS THE CONTINENT. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THE WORDS "BIG SLAY", "GAY RIGHTS" AND "BELLISSIMA" ARE OFTEN SPOKEN IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SPREADING OF OUR MESSAGE— I WOULD SUGGEST THE RESEARCH TEAM PREPARE A DOSSIER. I FEEL THE INSTITUTE'S MESSAGES ARE BEING COMMUNICATED EFFECTIVELY, SPECIFICALLY THOSE RELATING TO HELIOCENTRIC WORSHIP, APPRECIATION OF THE NATURAL WORLD, THE MANY BENEFITS OF NEVER SPENDING A BLUE DAY INSIDE, DIPPING INTO OCEANS FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES, AND THE USE OF MARIJUANA AS TOOL FOR INTROSPECTION AND SENSORY 'ZING'. PLEASE FIND ATTACHED SOME PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE OF INSTITUTE GATHERINGS AND OTHER FIELD DATA COLLECTION TRIPS. ON THIS DAY, SUMMER SOLSTICE OF THE YEAR 2022, IT IS MY WISH THAT YOU ARE TAKING A BREAK FROM YOUR EFFORTS TO OBSERVE OUR TEACHINGS. FEELING THE SUN ON YOUR SKIN FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE HOUR IS RECOMMENDED. SHARING YOUR EXPERT FINDINGS WITH THE INSTITUTE'S EMAIL TALK LINE IS ALSO RECOMMENDED. SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE MEMBERS MUST NOTE THE PRESENCE OF THE MATARIKI STAR CLUSTER APPEARING IN THE NIGHT SKY THIS WEEK— AN EARLY MORNING TRIP TO THE BEACH OR LOCAL MAUNGA TO OBSERVE THE CLUSTER IS MANDATORY.  PLEASE FIND ENCLOSED TWO NEW UNIFORM APPAREL PIECES, ONE SUITABLE FOR MEMBERS IN EACH HEMISPHERE. THESE PIECES DENOTE INSTITUTE MEMBERS WORLDWIDE, SO ACCESS MUST BE GRANTED ONLY TO OUR MEMBERS. IF A NEW BOO TRIES TO PUT ONE OF YOURS ON COMING BACK FROM THE BEACH BECAUSE THEY LIKE THE SICK DESIGN, YOU MUST POLITELY BUT FIRMLY ASK THEM TO REMOVE IT IMMEDIATELY. SENDING "LOVE AND LIGHT" FROM THE FIELD. UNTIL WE ARE REUNITED LATER IN THE YEAR, REMEMBER TO BREATHE OUT, TUNE IN, GET LOST, BREAK A SWEAT, SWIM DEEP. E

Having been launched in late-2023 at the Munich Motor Show, the Audi brand confirmed this week (March 2024) that this new EV is coming to the UK market and customers can now place orders. The Q6 will be a bigger alternative to the existing Q4 Estate and Sportback, which has been incredibly popular in 2023 and into 2024. But where the brand is very excited, is the synergy with Porsche, who have co-engineered a Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which is being used on the upcoming Porsche Macan
But how does the standard Q6 EV perform?  This AWD SUV will have a 94.9 kWh usable battery which will offer 0 – 62 times of 5.9 seconds, 130 mph top speeds and 285kW (or 382hp). Expect a combined winter range of 240 miles with warmer weather allowing for 320 miles – a 285 mile combined. On charging, the 11 kW AC max will allow 10 hour and 15 min 0 – 100% charging times with the 270 kW DC maximum allowing 21 minute 10 – 80% times. A cargo volume of 526L is available with this car. It has a vehicle fuel equivalent of 122 mpg. You can tow with this EV – 750kg (Unbraked) and 2400kg (Braked). It also has no V2L or V2G capabilities (so far). The Heat Pump is standard.

All-Star Squadron #9 (Revised 1/21/24)
All-Star Squadron #9 by Roy Thomas, Adrian Gonzales, and Jerry Ordway.
Warning, Spoilers Ahead…
“Should Old Acquaintance Be Destroyed…”
Liberty Belle, Johnny Quick, Hawkgirl, Commander Steel, Atom, Robotman, Firebrand, and the Shining Knight share a New Year’s Eve toast with FDR and Winston Churchill.
Sir Justin toasts Churchill: “I would salute Winston Churchill – the Prime Minister of a beleaguered and embattled Britain.  Aye, verily, from my liege King Arthur’s day to this, there be no man more worthy of knighthood, and of merrie England’s gratitude.  In sooth, sir, you are Britain – in this which you yourself named its finest hour!”
I forgot to mention it last issue but Sir Justin had a last name created for him. He is known as Justin Arthur in the modern time.
FDR has arranged for Hawkgirl to receive a phone call from Hawkman at midnight.
Firebrand’s brother, Rod, still hasn’t recovered enough to be sent stateside from Pearl Harbor.
The Atom, as Private Al Pratt, will return to his tank corps training in Virginia.
The All-Stars ask Steel to continue his story – what happened after he and two British commandos landed behind Nazi lined in Poland. The first part of his origin story was in All-Star Squadron #8 which I recapped in an earlier post.
Steel relates Antoni, Ludeck, and he landed near Konigsberg in East Prussia. The trio are soon ambushed by German forces, led by “Ein Schlachter”, the Butcher.  Steel’s comrades are killed and he is captured.
Steel, stripped of his costume, awakens in a concentration camp.  Steel speaks to a few of the camp’s prisoners and attempts to escape but is quickly re-captured.  Steel’s antics capture the camp scientists’ attention and they discover his enhancements.
The scientist recalls a medical conference in Munich where Gilbert Giles (Steel’s creator) discussed the possibility of the enhancements. One of Steel’s captors refer to him as an “uber-soldat” which translates to super-soldier. A nice reference since the creators of Steel intended for the character to be an homage to Captain America’s World War II adventures.
Steel makes yet another escape attempt and once again fails. A prisoner grabs a bottle of acid and throws it at the Butcher causing a massive facial disfigurement. Steel falls into unconsciousness.
Steel finishes his tale by informing the All-Stars that’s the last moment he remembers.  He has no idea how he ended up in Ottawa in time to save Winston Churchill.
Elsewhere in Washington D.C., Baron Blitzkrieg gloats about his upcoming victory. The Baron reveals he was “the Butcher”.  The German doctors were able to save his eyesight after the acid attack but his face was beyond repair.  He was used as a guinea pig and the experiments allowed him to “siphon off the mind’s vast energies – giving him full control, for brief periods, of his body’s resources…he could be super-strong or amazingly swift…even soar like a bird!”
The Baron reveals he created Steel’s amnesia and installed an order to assassinate Churchill when he hears the words “now begins the age of chaos”.  The Baron sent Steel to Ottawa to stop “the Black Assassin” and gain the confidence of the All-Stars, FDR, and Churchill.  Kung, however, was a wild card.
Midnight strikes and Hawkman and Hawkgirl are chatting on the phone.  Hawkman is stationed near San Francisco.
The Hawks’ call is interrupted by an individual asking for Steel.  Steel answers the phone.  FDR wonders how anyone would even know Steel was at the White House.  An immediately suspicious Liberty Belle orders Johnny Quick to remove FDR and Churchill from the room.  FDR agrees: “I’ve found Liberty Belle’s instincts to be almost flawless.”
Steel pursues the fleeing Johnny Quick, FDR, and Churchill.
“Good Gravy” – I love the old-fashioned comic book expressions.
Steel locks the doors behind him but it takes the Shining Knight and Robotman a whopping one second to destroy the doors.
The remaining All-Stars catch up with the brawling Steel and Johnny Quick. Johnny’s faster but Steel hits harder – the advantage of having steel-lined bones.
Firebrand surrounds FDR and Churchill in a ring of fire to prevent Steel from reaching the leaders.
The Shining Knight cautions his teammates: “No – wait, all! Truly, he is enchanted somehow! We must needs find the key that will release him from the spell!”
Sir Justin continues to be my favorite All-Star – observant, compassionate, a true knight.
Robotman confronts Steel in a “Man of Steel” fight.  Unfortunately, Superman doesn’t drop in to make it a three-way fight for the title.
Firebrand throws a ball of fire at Steel’s face causing Baron Blitzkrieg to recoil in emotional trauma and destroying the psychic link to Steel.
Steel, dazed and confused, has no idea what’s going on.
Robotman offers to check out Steel’s infrastructure for any surprises.
Johnny Quick and Liberty Belle, along with the Shining Knight and Firebrand, share their first kiss.
Baron Blitzkrieg, big bad Nazi villain, whimpers for Zwerg, his faithful sidekick: “Zwerg…Zwerg! Help me, Zwerg…don’t leave me…it’s…so dark in here…can’t see!  Please – turn on the lights! Promise me, Zwerg…promise me I will see again!”
Zwerg assures the Baron: “I promise, Herr Baron.  You shall see again – and on that day, we’ll strike like lightning in the night, you and I, and smash the Allies, and their hated All-Star Squadron, for all time!”
Sorry, Baron, I can’t muster any sympathy for you – not only are you a Nazi, but you were also in charge of a concentration camp. I hope Firebrand throws a fireball at your face every time she encounters you!

The event will also feature local favorites such as The Boots, Deb & the Dynamics, A’Finnity, and award-winning acts such as Pitbull of Blues and new this year, Dottie Kelly Band, an IBC Memphis finalist. Also, Cape Coral’s own Hafenkapelle, Manni Daum Trio, and many more! There will be non-stop foot-tapping music on three stages in the tent, the gardens, and inside in the Edelweiss Hall; something for every ear.
Featuring outdoor exhibitors, food vendors that offer both German food and international, or a sit-down dinner in the Von Steuben Hall, Oktoberfest has so much to offer. Looking for a photo opportunity? Stop for a photo shoot with Lissette Ortiz-Teleweck, Ms. Oktoberfest 2023, or with one of several Ms. Oktoberfests from previous years wearing their pretty dirndls and elegant blue sashes.
The dedicated GASC members, each one of them volunteering their time and effort to create the region’s most successful event, welcome you to enjoy German heritage. Once you capture the magic, you’ll want to become a member as well. The New Members’ Booth will be happy to give you the information you need on how you, too, can join Cape Coral’s Best Social Club!
Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit!
